[歌手介紹] Keith Murray (Long Island, NY)

Keith Murray (出生於九月13, 1974)，來自紐約長島，他是饒舌團體Def Squad的成員之一 (另外兩人為Redman和Erick Sermon)

在Keith Murray生涯早期，他以藝名"MC Do Damage"的身份闖蕩紐約饒舌圈，最為人津津樂道的事蹟是曾和Big Daddy Kane一同互相較勁。

AllHipHop.com: Is it true you stepped to Big Daddy Kane and battled him?

Keith Murray: Well my uncle Born True, God bless the dead, he used to be a bodyguard for Big Daddy Kane back in the days. Me and my cousin Drift, God bless the dead, always hung out together. He was the beat-box, and we went everywhere; tearing n***as down in every borough when we was young. I [told my uncle to] take us to Big Daddy Kane. He took us to a Juice Crew party, I auditioned there. Then he took us to the [Nassau] Coliseum when Kane had a show, then we went to the dinner and Born was like, “Kick some s**t.” So we exchanged flows at the time, it wasn’t really like a battle where I ran up on Kane and defeated him; I had the opportunity to rhyme back and forth with him.  

簡而言之，就是當時Keith Murray跑到了Juice Crew的派對裡，機緣巧合之下就開始與Big Daddy Kane兩人battle起來，這並不是一場很正式的battle，但這次的機會讓Keith Murray逐漸開始受到注目。過了沒多久，Keith Murray受到友人K-Solo的介紹認識了 EPMD 的 Erick Sermon。Keith Murray成功獲得Erick Sermon的賞識，並且讓Keith一同參與製作了1993年Erick Sermon的個人專輯"No Pressure"，在專輯裡貢獻"Hostile"一曲，從此Keith Murray的音樂之路正式展開。

Keith Murray 的首張專輯 "The Most Beautifullest Thing in This World" 在1994年透過JIVE Records發行，主打同名單曲不但是Keith生涯中最受歡迎的單曲、更是東岸嘻哈歷史上的經典作品之一！這張專輯佳評如潮，獲得了權威雜誌The Source的四支麥克風高評分(滿分是五支麥克風)，銷售成績也非常亮眼，榮獲RIAA金唱片認證！

Keith Murray在第一張專輯推出後大受歡迎，成為紐約當紅炸子雞，甚至還趁勢接拍了可口可樂的電視廣告，也和許多當紅藝人合作，像是Mary J Blige的"Be Happy"、LL Cool J的"I Shot Ya"...等等。1996年，Keith Murray再次透過JIVE發行了第二張專輯"Enigma"，主打單曲"The Rhyme"，這張專輯依舊獲得不錯的迴響，但是在商業上卻無法和前一張作品一樣大賣。隨後Keith Murray參與了Busta Rhyme的1996年首張專輯"The Coming"，代表Def Squad、在單曲"Flipmode Squad Meets Def Squad"中與Redman一同登場。

1998年，Def Squad翻唱了Sugarhill Gang的"Rapper's Delight"，夾帶著高人氣的他們、緊接著在同年六月發行團體專輯"El Niño"，這也是截至目前為止唯一的一張Def Squad專輯。

1999年，Keith Murray推出第三張個人專輯"It's a Beautiful Thing"，同樣也是在JIVE Records旗下發行，收錄了與 LL Cool J 合作的單曲"Incredible"，在這之後，唱片合約也就到期、Keith Murray離開了JIVE，轉而投入Def Jam的懷抱。

2003年，透過Def Jam發行第四張專輯"He's Keith Murray" (專輯封面就是首頁圖，台灣有代理過這張)，Def Squad的另外兩人都參與了這張作品，收錄暢銷曲"Yeah, Yeah U Know It" 以及"Candi Bar"...等等。同一年，Keith Murray還出現在Def Jam的電玩遊戲"Def Jam Vendetta"裡面，這是一款由EA研發出來的格鬥摔角遊戲，玩家可以選擇當時所有的Def Jam crew，包含：DMX, Keith Murray, WC, Ludacris, Method Man, Redman, Ghostface Killah, Joe Budden, N.O.R.E.....等等，有趣的是，日本版的遊戲還特別收錄當時Def Jam Japan的歌手Dabo和S-Word (台灣有代理過他的專輯，翻譯為"使惡")。

可惜好景不常，Keith Murray沒過多久就傳出了毆打Def Jam員工的負面新聞，因此而被Def Jam開除。沈寂了一陣子，到了2007年暑假，Keith Murray 伴隨著第五張專輯 "Rap-Murr-Phobia" 捲土重來，整張專輯幾乎都由老大哥Erick Sermo操刀製作，透過Koch Records 發行。雖然當時銷售成績普普通通，但也收錄了幾首賣座單曲，包括與Tyrese合作的"Nobody Do it Better"

自此之後，Keith Murray沒再和主流大廠簽約，都在underground打滾、作品全都是透過獨立小廠牌發行，在2008年一連發行兩張專輯"Puff Puff Pass"、以及"Intellectual Violence"，2001年和Canibus合作一起推出作品"Canibus and Keith Murray are The Undergods"。謠傳 Rap-Murr-Phobia 的系列作第二集: The Manifestation 將在今年推出，但明確上市日期到目前為止都還是個謎 (?)
