[歌手介紹] DJ House Shoes (Detroit, MI)

DJ House Shoes (原名Michael Buchanan) 是來自底特律的DJ兼製作人，他對底特律嘻哈發展貢獻良多、因此獲得了"底特律嘻哈大使(Detroit Hip-Hop’s Ambassador)"的封號。目前House Shoes定居在加州洛杉磯，自己營運獨立廠牌Street Corner Music

身為一位DJ，House Shoes時常到處放歌，造訪過的城市從美國各州一直到歐洲、澳洲，一起合作過的藝人更是不計其數，包含Danny Brown, Proof, Black Milk, Big Tone, Guilty Simpson, Illa J, Exile, Aloe Blacc, Percee P, Phat Kat, Slum Village and Elzhi, Mayer Hawthorne, Chino XL....等等。

House Shoes出生於底特律南方的小城市Lathrup Village。至於為什麼要叫做"House Shoes"也是個相當有趣的故事：1993年的時候，House Shoes進入Eastern Michigan University大學就讀，在他離開家裡準備進入學校之前，他母親送給他一雙黑色拖鞋，此後House Shoes就穿著它到處跑 - 穿去上課、打籃球、吃飯...到哪都是穿著這雙拖鞋。

"I went to Eastern Michigan University in the fall of 93’ and did a very brief stint like 94 days or some shit like that. Before I left for school, my mom got me a pair of OG – like granddaddy – house shoes…black leather joints with the red plaid on the inside. They were just mad fucking comfortable so I wore them to class, I wore them to the cafeteria…hooping. Basically, I would say for about seven or eight years, nine times out of ten if you saw me, I’d have house shoes on." - 原文請參考Salute The DJ訪談

從1994年開始，House Shoes就在底特律當地的夜店 St. Andrews Hall (底特律的嘻哈聖地，早期阿姆、J Dilla等人都是在此處表演) 擔任駐場DJ，這個工作一做就是十多年，在這段期間，House Shoes與許多樂壇裡備受敬重的音樂人、當地饒舌歌手都有合作過，還曾經四次被推選為底特律的"Best Hip Hop DJ"

1994年，當時House Shoes在當地的唱片行Street Corner Music (後來他自己的獨立廠牌也採用這個名字) 工作，並且與J Dilla結識，成為了莫逆之交。事實上，最早House Shoes會開始製作音樂也是因為受到Dilla的影響，大約在1996年的時候他開始向Dilla學習如何使用MPC 3000來製作音樂。後來在2005年的時候，J Dilla病情加劇、陷入昏迷，Houes Shoes更是義不容辭的飛往洛杉磯前去探望老友，在醫院裡陪伴著J Dilla。關於這個故事請參考文章"Jay Dee's Last Days"，當時House Shoes非常夠義氣，特地請來了35位好友、將祝福的話語錄製成語音留言，在Dilla生日的時候準備給他驚喜，兩人的情誼可見一斑：

"Man, listen to this crazy message this girl left me," House Shoes said, bringing his cell phone closer to Yancey's ear. Then he let them play. All 35 messages. There in his hospital bed, Yancey broke down and cried.

2006年的時候 J Dilla 病逝於洛杉磯，House Shoes在參加他的葬禮之後，就此下定決心離開底特律、並且遷居洛杉磯。對於離開底特律一事，說實話House Shoes並沒有特別感傷，反而覺得沒有牽掛、因為自己已經對底特律的Hip Hop做出許多卓越貢獻：

"Not at all. I had too much. I took real good care of the city man. Kind of almost at my own expense. I prioritized the city and the Hip Hop scene over my own shit. When Proof and Dilla passed, it was just like, I gotta get the fuck out of here. I’ve got a lot of lost time that I’ve got to make up for."

定居洛杉磯之後，House Shoes並沒有閒著沒事，依舊在許多派對放歌，像是著名的 Low End Theory、Do-Over，常常都能見到他放歌的身影。此外，House Shoes與底特律的聯結其實並沒有完全斷絕，每年依舊定期會飛回底特律表演，此外也持續與當地歌手合作，其中包括才初出茅廬沒多久的 Danny Brown。如同許多饒舌新人的做法一樣，在成名之前，Danny Brown發表過許多mixtapes、公佈在網路上供人免費下載，其中在2008年推出的"Hot Soup"更是頗受好評，House Shoes雖然沒有幫他製作、但後來在2014年時情意相挺，幫他重新推出實體CD與黑膠版本 (透過自己的廠牌Street Corner Music發行)。

2006年House Shoes參與製作Danny Brown的第二張專輯"XXX"，日後兩人的合作關係亦是相當密切，時常可以看見倆人彼此在對方的作品中登場。

儘管House Shoes已經在樂界打滾多年，幫許多歌手製作過、自己也推出過一些mixtape，但是一直到2012年五月，House Shoes才正式發表了生涯第一張個人專輯"Let It Go"，透過TRES Records發行，找來許多歌手跨刀助陣，像是Big Tone, Moe Dirdee, Mayer Hawthorne, Black Milk, Guilty Simpson, Danny Brown, Oh No, MED, The Alchemist, Co$$, Nottz, Roc Marciano, Chali 2na of Jurassic 5 等人，可說是相當重量級的組合。同一年，House Shoes同樣透過TRES Records發行另外一張作品"The Time" EP

House Shoes - Sweet (Feat. Danny Brown)

2013年，House Shoes開始經營自己的獨立廠牌"Street Corner Music"，與許多不同的製作人合作、推出一系列的beat tapes "The Gift"，目前總共有九張作品，全部都在網路上公開免費下載。至於實體唱片版本，則是採取少量發行，每張The Gift系列都只製作三百張，截至目前為止The Gift已經出到第五輯 (T-White - The Gift: Volume Five)，收藏家們可不要錯過了！

另外為人所津津樂道的，就是House Shoes對音樂文化的堅持，他收藏黑膠唱片多年、是個著名的crate digger，此外自己也抱持著崇高的理念，他曾在與LA Weekly的一篇訪談"House Shoes Offers His Rules For DJs"當中說道："如果你是個DJ卻不使用唱盤，那就乾脆都不要上檯了。現在九成以上的DJ放的歌都一樣，每個心裡都只想賺錢、卻不想去用音樂來教育聽眾"，有著這樣的胸襟，看來"底特律嘻哈大使(Detroit Hip-Hop’s Ambassador)"的稱號可不是浪得虛名啊。

"To each his own, but if you're not using the turntables, don't have them onstage,"he says. "Ninety percent of DJs play the same shit that everyone else is playing. Some people don't care and are like, 'I'm just going to go and get this money.' But they're totally disrespecting the opportunity to educate people."
